Ever since the Covid-19 pandemic started, wearing a mask has become a norm. But have you thought about how wearing a mask actually make you more attractive?

According to researchers at Cardiff University, UK, both men and women were judged to look better with masks that cover the lower half of their faces. The research done in February 2021 asked female participants to rate the attractiveness of images of male faces without a mask, wearing a plain cloth mask, a blue medical face mask, and holding a plain black book.

Surprisingly, 43 of the participants find people who wear surgical masks the most appealing. Besides, people who wear cloth masks are also found to be more attractive than those who cover their face with a book.

According to a reader as well as a face expert from the university, Dr Lewis, the pandemic has altered our psychology in how we perceive the wearers of masks. “When we see someone wearing a mask we no longer think ‘that person has a disease, I need to stay away’,”.

He also added that the fact that we find mask wearers more attractive is because the attention is directed straight to the eyes. When part of the face is covered, our brain automatically fills the gap and amplifies the impact generally.
