When it comes to elections and electing a representative, it is important to be as transparent and relatable as possible. Certain politicians do this by declaring their assets publicly to prove to the public that they don’t have anything to hide.

Recently, a MUDA candidate drew praise from netizens after he revealed his assets through a public asset declaration.

Alongside publishing the results on social media, Dobby Chew, who is MUDA’s Director of the Human Rights Bureau, is also running for the Seri Setia seat in the upcoming state elections, shared his assets in a press conference.

According to the asset declaration, Chew has only one bank account with a balance of RM174.25, making it his only liquid asset. Meanwhile, his only other assets include a Honda Civic car with loans amounting to RM134,670, his total personal debt.

Although questions were raised as he also revealed that his monthly salary is RM9,000 per month, netizens found his lack of liquid assets relatable.

Netizens praised Chew for being upfront about it and even made jokes about how they felt pitiful for him.

Meanwhile, Chew himself has taken to the comments in his stride and announced that he is, in fact, selling merchandise to help fund his campaign.
