Malaysians, including politicians, often condemn motorcyclists for parking on sidewalks, which end up blocking the way for pedestrians and blocking tactile pathways for the visually impaired. This has led local authorities to seize motorcycles that are parked on sidewalks.
But, what if government officials park on sidewalks? Will the local authorities seize their vehicles?
The #UpdateInfo Twitter page recently showcased how 2 government officials’ vehicles were parked on a sidewalk in Kuala Lumpur, ultimately blocking the path for pedestrians AND obstructing the tactile pathway used by the visually impaired.
They wrote, “Who are they, parking on the sidewalk?”
In the images shown, a red Proton and a black Toyota could be seen parked on the sidewalk.
The red Proton is believed to belong to a Member of Parliament (MP), based on the plaque above the number plate.
The black Toyota, on the other hand, is believed to belong to someone from the Ministry of Home Affairs of Malaysia, as displayed on the vehicle.
Many have since pointed out that the ones who parked the vehicles as such may be the government officials’ drivers.
“Normally, the drivers are the ones who park like this.”
“These are normally the drivers.”
“Who are their drivers? If this goes viral, the (government officials) can settle things with their drivers. Because our representatives are entrusted to take care of many important things, it’s impossible if they cannot also handle their drivers. If the driver is someone that cannot be handled, it’s best to immediately replace them with someone more qualified.”
Should the authorities take action against government officials’ vehicles that are parked where they’re not supposed to?
