M’sians Can Now Use Debit & Credit Cards to Pay for Tolls at Penang Bridge, Penangites Get 20% Discount

PLUS Malaysia has announced that the Open Payment System is now operational at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza.

This means that road users now has the option to pay for tolls at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza using debit and credit cards on top of the existing options to pay using Touch ‘n Go cards and RFID.

Announced on its official Facebook page, PLUS Malaysia said that a public pilot test is now ongoing at the toll plaza for the Open Payment System.

Furthermore, those who want to use their debit or credit cards can do so at toll booths with the MyDebit, Visa and Mastercard logos on them.

PLUS Malaysia added that at these toll booths, there will be two terminals, one for payments using Touch ‘n Go, while the other for payments using MyDebit, Visa or Mastercard.

Users opting to use their debit or credit cards will have the toll amount deducted from the balance in their respective cards.

 

Penangites can get 20% discount for the toll at the Penang Bridge Toll Plaza

Besides that, PLUS Malaysia also announced that those who are residing or working or studying in Penang can also enjoy 20% discount for the toll at the Penang Bridget Toll Plaza.

For private vehicles, this 20% discount is applicable for road users who are using RFID or debit or credit cards to make payments.

Meanwhile, for company vehicles, the discount is only applicable with payments made using Touch ‘n Go cards.

In order to enjoy this 20% discount, eligible Penang residents, either for private or company vehicles, can apply  via the “Jimat di Penang” microsite here.

 

 

Awesome! Let’s hope that the Open Payment System would be extended to all toll plazas nationwide soon and we can’t wait for Malaysia to eventually transition to barrier-less toll plazas in the future.
