White-collar and blue-collar jobs each have their own perks and challenges. They’re recognised as tough gigs, each in their own way. But the big debate lately is which one is tougher.
In a post that really gets you thinking, user @naimpestcontrol shares his firsthand experience working in both office and field settings, diving deep into the debate.
His whole life changed as soon as he started working in the office
In the post, Naim shared how he began his career as a technician in pest control, where working up to 12 hours was the norm for him.
Despite being physically tired, he still made time for enough rest and even managed to visit the gym for a 2-hour workout.
“But it’s different now since I started working in an office. When you’re mentally tired, you automatically feel physically tired too. Because your physical state depends on your mental well-being whenever you want to do something.”
“You’d end up losing focus”
Naim went on to explain that even after leaving the office and trying to relax at home, work still lingers in your mind, making it hard to fully rest. And when your mind is drained, your body follows suit, leaving you feeling exhausted.
“You might lose your appetite but still manage to gain weight, feel constant fatigue, and lack the energy to engage in other activities.”
He concluded by expressing his belief that experiencing mental fatigue is ultimately more challenging than physical tiredness.
Netizens also shared their thoughts on the debate, flooding the comment section with their opinions.
“That’s why a lot of teachers tend to have bigger bodies, mainly because of mental exhaustion, especially when they’re teaching exam classes.”
“I totally agree. Physical work is way more enjoyable than boring office tasks. I used to be a technician, working from morning till evening, and I could go through the day without eating.”
“Feeling mentally exhausted is much tougher than feeling physically tired.”
