When it comes to employee ethics, it’s best to always be responsible for your work and make sure that your boss is well informed.
Just recently, an employer has shared his struggles as one of his employees was causing some trouble.
In his post, he asked,
“If an employee says that she is unable to come to work due to menstrual cramps, what should I do?
I asked her if she has seen a doctor and has an MC, but she said that she isn’t planning on seeing a doctor. Then, I told her that we will deduct her annual leave if she isn’t going to see a doctor, but she kept saying that she is unwell.”
Since she is on leave, the boss then handed some of her work over for her colleagues to handle. But the colleague showed him a TikTok video of her in a mall having lunch with a friend.
“When I found out that she was lying, I called her immediately and asked her about it. She told me that the TikTok video I saw was from yesterday and that she is currently at home resting.
I asked her to turn her live location on and she only did it an hour and half after I requested”, he said.
Under probation, but entitled to 1 paid leave a month
The boss has mentioned that the girl is still under probation and her probation is for 6 months. Their company policy states that employees that are still under probation are not entitled to paid leaves, but he is willing to give them 1 paid leave every month.
“Seeing that she used the leave last Saturday (10/9), this would mean that she has used up her quota.
She told me that she has to attend her relative’s wedding and couldn’t make it to work. She didn’t inform me that she was on leave until I came to the office and found out that she wasn’t in”, he said.
Flexibility in terms of work hours, as long as you finish your tasks
At his company, employees are required to work about 45 hours per week, but he is not very particular about it, if his employees finish their pending tasks by 3pm, they’re allowed to leave.
“We’re in the frozen foods industry and I always remind my employees to try and finish their tasks by the day itself. They just need to send me a WhatsApp text telling me that they’re leaving.”
Warning letter has been issued
After the incident, the girl went back to work as per usual the next day, but the boss has already issued her a warning letter.
“Other than not informing me that she’s taking leave, she would always come in late and leave early. I care about my employee’s wellbeing, but that doesn’t mean they can use this as an excuse to not finish their work or be irresponsible”, he said.
Many netizens think that he should just fire her as she isn’t taking her job too seriously.
