While it may be a little premature to rejoice just yet, there has been good news in the fight against the Covid-19 coronavirus, as The Star newspaper reports! In China, where the virus is most prevalent, the number of patients who have recovered from the Covid-19 coronavirus have now outnumbered newly confirmed cases of infection for the first time since the epidemic began!

This is based upon data obtained from China’s National Health Commission, which recorded 1,824 people discharged from hospital on Tuesday (18th February 2020), which is higher than the number of newly infected patients on the same day, at 1,749.

As of Tuesday, over 14,376 Covid-19 coronavirus patients have been discharged from hospital with a clean bill of health!

The sudden drop in numbers of newly infected patients is corroborated by the daily numbers of patients seen outside Hubei, the epicentre of the virus, which also indicates dropping numbers of new Covid-19 cases for 15 straight days since February 3rd 2020.

However, it does bear to note that at this point in time, Covid-19 has already infected over 74,185 in China by Tuesday (18th February 2020), while 2,004 people have already died from it. In addition, these numbers are likely to change on a day-to-day basis.

Regardless of which, could this drop in newly confirmed patients indicate a slowing down of the Covid-19 virus? But just to be safe, always remember to still practice good hygiene habits, so that you don’t add another number to the number of confirmed cases!
