We’ve been seeing multiple efforts from Melaka to improve their quality of living with the most recent being the introduction of SMART hydrobikes to encourage the general public to exercise while cleaning the Melaka River.
Now, the Melaka State Government is once again using bicycles to improve their healthcare infrastructure.
Melaka State Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh took to his Facebook page to introduce cycling paramedics, or better known as community paramedics, to hasten first aid at tourist areas for those who require emergency medical services.
He wrote, “What is a community paramedic? A Melaka State Government initiative for tourists and visitors. Where else? In Melaka lah!”
As showcased in his video, Ab Rauf Yusoh explained that a medical station has been set up in which the community paramedics will mobilise from.
The trained paramedics also have bags with medical equipment that they will carry with them as they make their rounds on their bicycles. They even have an automated external defibrillator (AED) for the treatment of cardiac emergencies.
“In these bags, they are complete with emergency equipment before (the patient) is taken to the hospital,” he added.
He also emphasised that the services are not only for tourists but also residents of the area who need help before the arrival of an ambulance.
