All three vaccines, namely the Pfizer-BioNTech, Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines are suitable for pregnant women, according to Coordinating Minister for COVID-19 Immunisation, Khairy Jamaluddin.

In a press conference yesterday (26 June 2021), Khairy said that according to the Ministry of Health, the Pfizer vaccine is the recommended and preferred vaccine for pregnant women, while the Sinovac and AstraZeneca vaccines are classified as suitable.

“AstraZeneca is no longer contraindicated in pregnancy, and Sinovac is recommended by the interim report of World Health Organisation (WHO) as suitable for pregnant mothers because its benefits outweigh its risks,” Khairy said.

Besides, according to an infographic posted by the Special Committee On Covid-19 Vaccine Supply (JKJAV), the Pfizer, Sinovac and AZ vaccines are suitable for all pregnant mothers from 14 to 33 weeks of pregnancy as well as all lactating mothers.

In another video shared by JKJAV, a pregnant mother who has just entered week 34 of her pregnancy has safely received her Covid-19 vaccine on 26 June, and she encouraged other pregnant mothers to get vaccinated. She took the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine.

“Vaccination beyond 33 weeks is not an absolute contraindication and can be considered on a case to case basis following an individualized risk and benefit assessment,” stated JKJAV.
