A video has gone viral showing an explosion at a stall selling fireworks before it was completely destroyed by fire in an incident believed to have occurred at Taman Pekaka, Nibong Tebal, Penang.

The 53‑second video captures a tense moment when the roadside stall suddenly exploded, producing a large burst of sparks and flames.

Malaysians call for tighter enforcement

The video has drawn criticism from social media users, with many calling on authorities to further tighten enforcement regarding the issuance of licences.

“People are clueless and keep saying fireworks have some kind of benefit.””

One user commented, “Fireworks should just be banned altogether.”

This year really takes the cake with fireworks. It’s not even just Malay kids anymore. Don’t know what’s wrong with people, during takbir they’re playing with fireworks, and it goes on until the morning,” said another.

“The police should stop the sale. Before permits are issued, all vendors should undergo intensive fire‑prevention training. Have you ever seen a fire extinguisher on standby at a fireworks stall? Never, right?”
