So you’re on a cruise with beautiful people and everything is dandy till you suddenly find out you’re on a ship that now has a deadly virus, and you’re not allowed leave for fear of contamination. Wow, that got dark real fast.

This is basically what happened to 3,500 people off the coast of Japan. As reported by Business Insider, due to the Covid-19 coronavirus, 170 passengers on board have been infected and in order to prevent further transmission, ALL passengers have now been held for 10 days.

As a means to deal with the what I’m sure is extreme boredom and dissatisfaction from both passengers and crew members, the Japanese Government got creative and very generous. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labor, and Welfare and Japanese telecom company SoftBank distributed 2,000 iPhones, one per cabin, for all on the ship.

You’re telling me you still rather not be on that ship??

All the phones came with an app that allows people to request for medication, set doctor consultation appointments, and receive info from health officials. When asked why the app couldn’t just be downloaded on their original phones, it was stated that there were issues with registering the app on phones that weren’t purchased from Japan itself.

But if you ask me though, it seems like it was just a tactic to get on the passengers’ good side again. Whatever the reason, what a way to make everything dandy again! (Well, sort of.)
