The one good thing that has come from the recent flash floods is the fact that Malaysians of all shapes, colours and sizes have united to help those in need.
These unsung heroes have been highlighted all over social media in recent weeks, and one of them is ‘Abang Viva’ or Azwan Omar who drove a Viva with a boat strapped onto the roof from Melaka to Selangor.
His good deeds have constantly been recognised and praised by Malaysians on social media who have treated him as the people’s hero.
It seems that the authorities have also discovered his story and have decided to award him with a certificate of appreciation.
In a TikTok video posted by Azwan himself, he shared how he had been awarded with a certificate of appreciation from the Malaysia Civil Defence Department (APM) for his efforts to help flood victims.
The video showed a few pictures which were taken from the certificate acceptance ceremony. In the caption of the video, he thanked his parents and strangers for their constant prayers.
The certificate reads, “for your work and amazing commitment in the mission of rescuing people during the North-East Monsoon 2021/2022”.
Netizens are delighted over the news
Following the news, Malaysians were happy and overjoyed that Azwan’s good deeds have finally been officially recognised. Many believe that he truly deserves the award for helping flood victims in any way possible.
One user commented, “You defenitely deserve it bro.. your name has even been mentioned at prayer sermons even though you are not a King or a Minister.”
“Congrats! You seem so humble. No need to even wear a shirt and suit to come pick up the award”, said another user
One commenter expressed their gratitude to Abang Viva. They also said thank you to him for giving them RM50. “It is a huge amount in the hands of someone that needs it.”
