After a lengthy debate regarding the fund distribution, the Budget 2021 passed the policy stage. Next, it will be debated and voted at the committee stage in December before heading to the Senate for the final vote.

Despite the political agenda in the Dewan Rakyat behind every point presented, the man responsible for the 2021 Budget, Finance Minister, Tengku Zafrul says he wishes to remain a technocrat and will continue to ensure the lives and livelihoods of the people of this country are protected especially during the pandemic.

“I am not interested in joining any political party and as you know, I am not a member of any party at the moment!”

Astro Awani reported that the minister said that there are many more tasks needed to be done to boost the economy which is his main focus. He believes in his ability to develop the country’s economy without the need for politics.

Speaking to Bernama, the minister said some initiatives for which he received criticisms for was not his proposal but those that came from the lawmakers themselves during the course of the debate in Parliament.

Tengku zafrul was sworn in as senator on march 10, 2020 following his appointment as finance minister.

However, the minister clarified that the Government is not able to accept or implement all the proposals that had been raised as the Government’s role is always to balance the various interests, both in terms of cost implication, to ensure that the recipients really need them.
