A loan of only RM1,000 from the loan sharks has trapped a Malaysian aunty in debt worth over RM23,000.

In a viral TikTok video by an NGO organisation @persatuanhakmasyarakat, the Malaysian aunty, who is in her 60s, admitted to seeking help from illegal money lenders after her car broke down and her sons and daughters had no idea about her debts. However, the senior citizen did reach out to her children for help but to no avail.

She was told to be patient while they tried to look for more money.

The woman also said it has not been easy for her without transportation as she needed to travel via LRT, which she is not familiar with.

“I had to ask around about which stations do I get off, where do I board the train. It’s tiring.”

She clarified that she had help sometimes from someone who sent her to her destinations, but due to the distance between their houses, the person couldn’t help her often.

When asked about her RM23,580 debt, the woman couldn’t come up with a repayment solution and said that she initially borrowed only RM1,000 before the total amount of her debt skyrocketed thanks to the interest.

The woman makes only RM2,000 per month and said that in this week alone, she has barely eaten anything.

“I only eat biscuits, and I have lost 10kg,” she said.

She added that she is stuck in the repayment plan as she still has other commitments to pay.

The aunty spoke to a member of the organisation in the hope that he could guide her with the repayment plan.
