The Menu Rahmah initiative by the government has proven to be a real hit. Thousands of business owners from a variety of different sectors have chosen to take part in the initative.

From homestays to pet stores, there seems to be no end in the ways that business owners can get involved in the initiative.

Recently, a hotel in Sandakan has become the first in the country to offer a Rahmah accommodation package during Ramadan as revealed by Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.

He said the Rahmah offering in the hospitality industry could promote tourism.

“The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry is expanding the Rahmah initiative to other services. This initiative is now not limited to food menus, cafes and sales, but has also expanded to hospitality, banking, and insurance services.”

“I will hold more engagement sessions with other parties on this initiative,” he said after launching the Rahmah Package offered by The Elopura Hotel.

Salahuddin said the hotel offered a 20% discount on accommodation with free sahur (pre-dawn meal before fasting) during Ramadan.

He said package will be extended a week after Ramadan with free breakfast.

In a post on his Facebook account, Salahuddin wrote, “I hope that with a Rahmah package like this, it can simultaneously improve the economy of the tourism industry in Sandakan.”

Earlier, Salahuddin, when launching the Menu Rahmah at the Mydin Supermarket said based on the feedback from traders, the initiative has become a crowd puller for them.

So far, he said a total of 1,531 business premises nationwide have registered with KPDN to participate in the initiative.

“There is no compulsion. Any trader can register with KPDN for free for us to help promote them, as long as they offer a balanced meal at a price of RM5 or less,” he explained.
