If you are the type to keep up with world news, you must have read about the anti-government protests that have shaken Hong Kong for months now, and by the looks of it, the two sides don’t show any signs of backing out.
But, in the midst of chaos and war there’s hope. Even when they are fighting for their lives, the citizens remain respectful towards different religions and act out of pure goodwill. Faith in humanity prevails!
According to My Metro, the citizen of Kowloon decided to clean up Tsim Sha Tsui Mosque that was also affected by sprays of blue dye water sprayed at protestors from the government’s water cannon trucks last Sunday (Oct 20th).
Initially, the police intended to blast the sprays and tear gas only at the protesters, but the blue substance spread to the walls, door, and stairs of the mosque. The blue dye is meant for the police to easily identify protesters in Kowloon later on, possibly for arrests.
The citizens can be seen buffing the steel fence and washing the stairs and sidewalk of the mosque, which was tinted in blue.
One of the citizens, Chan, said that he didn’t know anything about Islam, and he didn’t know that Muslims prayed in mosques.
“We felt really guilty for not being able to protect the mosque that wasn’t even supposed to be involved in this fight,” he said.
The current Chief Executive of Hong Kong, Carrie Lam apologised deeply for the incident and promised that the police will do their best to protect houses of worship.
Awh… Such a heart-warming story. Their genuine respect towards each other’s religions is what we should aim for in Malaysia. Thank you, dear people of Hong Kong, for giving us hope.
