People used to have bigger families last time but now, you rarely see such big families anymore. Astro Awani reported that most married couples in Malaysia now are uninterested in having many children even though they are still young.

The Fifth Malaysian Population And Family Survey (MPFS-5) found that most couples nowadays prefer only having one or two children.

Hannah Yeoh, the Deputy Minister of Women, Family and Community Development said that one of the main reasons couples do not want to have a lot of children is because of the challenges that working women face. These women find it hard to juggle their responsibilities at home and in the workplace.

Yeoh added that there should be more practical solutions for women’s responsibilities at home and the workplace such as provide daycare services for their children in the office.

Some Malaysian couples also live separately because they work in different places and that is also why they might not want more kids.

She added that this matter has to be handled carefully because the husband and wife have to shoulder the responsibility when managing the family and taking care of their kids.
