One of the saddest things about the lockdown is that you can’t enjoy your favourite foods that are located in different districts unless you can afford the somewhat higher cost of delivery fees.

An elderly uncle has been craving his favourite laksa from O&S Restaurant in Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya, so much so that he called to check on the pricing of delivery to his home in Sungai Buloh.

Sadly, the delivery fee ended up costing more than the price of the noodles itself, and the uncle chose not to place his order.

The curry laksa hawker stall at O&S Restaurant has since taken to their Facebook page to share how they decided to deliver their laksa to the uncle, free of charge, in an effort to brighten his day.

They wrote, “Not selling, but sharing. I have been answering calls since mum and dad (the hawkers) started this online delivery. Last week, I picked up this call and from the voice, I can tell that he is a very old grandpa, and he is checking up on delivery and its charges.”

“He wanted to order two packets, but the delivery charges were way too expensive, costing more than the noodles (as he stays in Sungai Buloh). I mentioned to him that is it not worth it and we ended the call, but I could feel his disappointment, my heart broke.”

They felt guilty over the situation and decided to see if there was anything they could do.

The customer is a regular and his wife has dementia

“I didn’t feel easy about it and that night, I rang up mum and dad to share about this. Despite being full, tired and can no longer take any orders, they immediately decided to take his order and arrange delivery for him, ALL FOR FREE,” they shared.

They went on to share that the uncle had been a regular customer at their stall but due to the lockdowns, he could not cross district borders to purchase his favourite laksa.

The elderly man, who also takes care of his wife as she suffers from dementia, was clearly delighted to receive the special package, as he shared his appreciation via WhatsApp.

“A little reminder, when you give joy to others, you get more joy in return,” they added in a lovely sentiment.

We’re truly happy that the uncle managed to get his favourite laksa and that his spirits have been lifted.

If you are from Taman Paramount, please do support mum and pop’s laksa stall at O&S Restaurant.
