Economy rice is 1 of the best meals to have for lunch and dinner, and the best part about it is the cheap price that comes with a myriad of options.

Sadly, not all places offer an economical price for a plate of economy rice anymore. A hawker in Sabah is still doing his best to keep a low price for a plate of economy rice… as low as RM2.50! To those staying in Klang Valley, let’s not dream about getting that price anymore. Or shall we?

The hawker, Liu has always been maintaining a low price so that people with bigger families can afford to keep their tummies satisfied. What if the market price for rice increases in the near future?

“Even if it does, the price is still RM2.50 for a plate of economy rice. You can get 4 plates for only RM10.”

RM10 is almost the price for a plate of economy rice in KL.

Liu’s stall is always crowded not only because of the cheap price of his food but also the variety of pastries that are available, reported Sin Chew.

“The prices of vegetables have increased but thankfully, the price of meat like pork has gone down for RM10 per kg. It lessens my burden too,” Liu said.

Typically, Liu charges RM2.50 for a plate of rice with 2 vegetables. If a customer chooses a meat and a vegetable with rice, it will only cost RM4.

“As long as my customers are happy”

The decision to maintain the low price was not made by himself. It was a mutual decision between Liu and his wife & son after a discussion since it involved the cost and profits of the business. Liu only has 1 intention in running his business – to keep customers happy.

“I made my son understand about why I keep the low price. As long as I can maintain my business & the customers are happy, that’s all that matters.”

Liu also said that he has seen many familiar faces returning to his stall regularly.

“I’ve also noticed new customers coming to my stall.”

Economy rice, sometimes known as mixed rice has always tasted great, but can we please make economy rice economical again?
