Popular personality and preacher Ebit Lew is currently facing trial for alleged sexual harassment, though he is not physically there in court, as he is currently performing the Hajj in Mecca with the court’s approval.
Previously, the 7th witness in the trial told the court that Ebit Irawan Ibrahim Lew’s phone browser history contained porn sites and searches regarding sexual harassment laws in Malaysia.
Yesterday, the same witness, 43-year-old Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) senior audio-video analyst ASP Latifah Abdul Aziz further shared with the court other findings during checks on Ebit Lew’s mobile phone.
As reported by BERNAMA, the witness shared that the preacher’s phone, which she received on 8 October 2021 also contained a WhatsApp group with obscene pictures and videos.
To assure that the mobile phone was not tempered in any way, ASP Latifah shared that the device was sent to the PDRM’s forensic laboratory by the investigating officers at 12.02pm on the aforementioned date.
The mobile phone was kept safe before it was released for analysis on 22 October 2021, but the mobile phone had a password.
During the examination-in-chief by Deputy Public Prosecutor Nor Azizah Mohamad at the trial, the witness asserted,
“I contacted the investigating officer to get the password to enable the analysis system to gain access and it was given to me the same day. I then did an analysis of the mobile phone and found the ‘WhatsApp group’,”
Ebit Lew, 37, faces 11 charges, including insulting the modesty of a woman in her 40s by sending obscene messages and pictures to the victim via the WhatsApp application between March and June 2021.
He is being charged under Section 509 of the Penal Code and if found guilty, Ebit Lew may face a prison sentence of up to five years or a fine or both.
