Recently, a Malaysian man questioned DBKL officers for allegedly issuing a notice and clamping a Perodua Bezza parked by the roadside, but not another luxury car that was parked nearby.

This started a debate on double standards, that regular folks are more often subjected to the law compared to the wealthy.

Now, DBKL is refuting these claims by explaining that the officers were merely following their SOPs without giving ‘special treatment’ to anyone.

They wrote, ” It seems that the issue of tyre clamps in Bangsar has become a hot topic recently. DBKL would like to clarify that the actions taken by our enforcement team on November 11, 2024, around Jalan Telawi 1, 3 and 4, Bangsar, were based on clear and consistent SOPs, without ‘special consideration’ for anyone.”

“On that day, a total of 13 vehicles were subjected to tyre clamp actions, including a Perodua Bezza as recorded by its owner.”

They added that the notice and tyre clamp on the Bezza was carried out at 1:09pm, while they removed the clamp at 1:30pm.

Without driver, clamp. With driver, no clamp.

“Some may wonder why other vehicles ‘missed’ (getting clamped) in the video. For your information, DBKL’s SOP stipulates that tyre clamps cannot be implemented on vehicles with a driver inside. Therefore, our officers have instructed the vehicle owners, who are in their vehicles, to remove their vehicles from the location,”

“DBKL would like to emphasise that we firmly adhere to the principle of justice without ‘double standards’. All enforcement actions taken are transparent, firm and aimed at ensuring the comfort and safety of city residents without prejudice,” they added.
