Earlier this morning (5th March), roads near the Kuala Lumpur City Centre experienced heavier traffic than usual due to an uprooted tree that fell around Jalan Ampang. The incident, which happened at 7.30am, happened right at the junction facing Menara Public Bank, and left two people injured.
Kuala Lumpur Fire and Rescue Department director Khirudin Drahman told the Malay Mail Online,
“The fallen tree crashed into a motorcycle causing head injuries to the rider and passenger, while another driver escaped unharmed with only damages reported to his car.”
“From the reports received, the rider is still being treated in the red zone of Hospital Kuala Lumpur while his partner is recuperating in the green zone.”
According to Harian Metro, the tree fell on top of a motorcycle occupied by a married couple who had just tied the knot yesterday (4th March). They have since been identified as 38-year-old Norazrul Mohd, who was driving the motorcycle, and his 25-year-old wife Mira Ezva Abd Rasid.
Mira escaped with minor injuries, while her husband, who suffered a head injury from the accident, has yet to regain consciousness. She told the daily,
“It all happened so fast. The tree in front of us suddenly fell over and my husband did not have time to press the brakes, which caused us to crash into it.”
“I’m grateful that I made it out safely, but now I’m worried about my husband because he is still unconscious.”
The newlyweds just had their marriage ceremony at a mosque in Cheras yesterday. Mira, who works as a security guard at a shopping mall in Ampang, explained that this was their first time using that specific route during their morning commute.
“This was the first time we drove that way, because I just got stationed to work at this new mall. This is a big test for my husband and I, especially since it hasn’t been a full day since we got married. I hope he will make a complete recovery soon.”
The 25-year-old added that she is considering taking legal action against the relevant authorities once her husband recovers from his injuries.
What a terrible thing to happen to a newlywed couple! Our thoughts go out to Mira and her husband, and hope he recovers quickly.
