A woman’s trip to the Maldives turned into a nightmare after a shark attack.

Despite menstruating, the 26-year-old woman insisted on snorkelling, and even deliberately approached a group of sharks.

She criticised her tour guide for asking her to leave the water

In the incident that happened on 26 November, one of the sharks bit her and left a large gash on her wrist.

However, for the sake of snapping more Instagram-worthy photos, she refused to come ashore after the attack and criticised the tour guide for forcing her to leave the water.

After the incident, she nonchalantly showed her wound to her friends, who advised her to seek medical attention, but the woman ignored their words, according to a post on Weibo. She also laughed when her friends consistently reminded her of the possibility of amputation if her wounds were left untreated.

Her wounds became inflamed and infected

The woman initially ignored her wounds as she had not felt anything serious, saying that she could make her own judgments, as reported by Chinese media.

“If the shark had bitten my blood vessel, or my major artery, or my bone, and if my joints couldn’t move, I would definitely be very panicked.”

However, after realising that her wounds had become inflamed, she visited the hospital for treatment.

Her wounds were cleaned and she received a tetanus shot.

Before receiving treatment, there was a hole about the size of a mung bean on her left wrist that was still bleeding, and there were scratch marks nearby. She also said that she had consulted with professionals, and she was told that it was okay to go into the water as long as she wore a tampon.

As for the reason behind the shark bite, she claims that it was probably due to the silver bracelet she was wearing underwater.
