A hotel in Johor Bahru recently went viral for offering different wedding packages that come with different prices.

In a circulating Reddit post, a 4-star hotel in Johor Bahru was seen promoting its wedding packages and what caught Malaysians’ attention was the fact that the prices for the packages vary according to race:

  • Malay Wedding Package (starts from RM788 for a table of 10 pax)
  • Chinese Wedding Package (starts from RM1,888 for a table of 10 pax)
  • Indian Wedding Package (starts from RM1,388 for a table of 10 pax)

It’s because of food costs

Many netizens are on board with the prices, saying the prices make sense particularly due to the different types of cuisines being served. According to them, this is when food costs come into play, which leads to the varying prices of the respective wedding packages.

A user who had worked in event management in the past also shared his take on the price by highlighting the food costs involved in different festive seasons.

The poster could have been designed better

Another user highlighted that although the prices make sense, the hotel’s marketing strategy is questionable, saying that it gives a bad impression at first glance.

On the other hand, 1 of the users pointed out that many of us are spending wayyy beyond our means on weddings.

A wedding is 1 of the most significant highlights of your life, so it makes sense that some people don’t mind going all out. To the lovebirds who are tying the knot soon, how much are you willing to spend? To the married couples, what was your budget like back in the day?
