The elderlies deserve the best care and protection, regardless of where they are.

Recently, a senior citizen from Johor Bahru came down all the way to Kuala Lumpur all by herself to look for a job and spend the remainder of her life here. The 81-year-old senior citizen, whose husband and son have passed away, told Uncle Kentang that she does not want to burden her grandsons and in-laws.

According to a Facebook post by Uncle Kentang yesterday (August 16), most of the business operators refused to hire the old woman due to her age, despite still having the ability to work.

“She had nowhere else to go, so she had to sleep at the Bandar Tasek Selatan Bus Station for three nights.”

After realising she could not survive without any money, she reached out to Uncle Kentang as she has been keeping tabs on his volunteering work. At the time of writing, the senior citizen, known as Lee, has been placed in an old folks home which is managed by Uncle Kentang and his team.

Grandsons & in-laws in Singapore

Lee revealed that ever since the demise of her son three years ago, her grandsons and in-laws have been in Singapore for some time.

Lee knew that the living costs in Singapore are higher and knowing that she might not make it there, she decided NOT to trouble her next of kin. She came to KL for only one reason – to survive on her own as she knows her capability and strength.

“She was a teacher before, and she used to work in the kitchen, so she can cook,” Uncle Kentang added.

He then urged any business operators to hire Lee since the senior citizen can still make a living on her own.

“She should be enjoying & relaxing, not working.”

In an interview with Sin Chew, Uncle Kentang revealed that his Facebook post has gained the attention of many concerned Malaysians who expressed interest in helping Lee.

“Some even offered to hire her as maid or as the cook at home.”

Despite their good intentions, Uncle Kentang told Sin Chew that he sincerely felt that Lee should be spending the remainder of her life relaxing. Lee, who is still a workaholic, is currently keeping herself occupied by planting vegetables in the old folks’ home and chit-chatting with fellow senior citizens there.

When asked about Lee’s next of kin, Uncle Kentang revealed that he has yet to receive any calls from them.
