The 69-year-old Toyota Hilux driver who caused the death of a woman in Bandar Muar, Johor has been arrested and charged with murder.
According to Sinar Harian, the mini-market operator, Gui Chui, was arraigned in the Muar Magistrate’s Court today (27 April) on the charge of killing the 41-year-old woman identified as Norain Abu Samah.
However, Gui Chui only nodded when the charge was read in Mandarin in front of Magistrate Zuraidah Abu Bakar. No confession was recorded from the accused as the murder case is under the jurisdiction of the High Court.
If Gui Chui is found guilty of murder, he will face a mandatory death sentence in accordance with Section 302 of the Penal Code.
The prosecution was conducted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Putera Amirool Faez Suhasi while the accused was represented by lawyer RK Balakrishnan.
No bail was given and the court set the case to be mentioned again on 25 May for the submission of the victim’s autopsy report, chemical report and report from the Computerized Vehicle Inspection Center (Puspakom).
Gui Chui, who lives in Taman Parit Bakar, was caught on video beating a red light at the Temenggong Ahmad Bypass traffic light at Jalan Pintasan Bandar Muar at 7.45am on 25 April.
As a result, his car rammed into a Perodua Myvi driven by the victim and killed the woman while her daughter was seriously injured.
