55yo Stage Four Cancer Patient From Kuantan Jumps Off Hospital Building

Yesterday, 20 December, a man who has stage four thyroid cancer passed away after jumping off the fourth floor of Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA).

It is believed that he was depressed due to his disease.

According to Bernama, Kuantan District Police Chief Assistant Commissioner Mohamad Noor Yusof Ali said the 55-year-old man died at the scene due to severe head injuries.

He said the initial investigation found that the victim, who was also a farmer, was found lying on the ground near the hospital lobby at 2.25pm.

“The victim is believed to have jumped from the fourth floor of the HTAA building causing injuries to the head, neck, mouth and was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said.

“So far, we believe the deceased jumped from the hospital building based on the broken branches and twigs on his body,” he explained.

“Further investigation found that no criminal element was detected. The victim’s body was then handed over to the HTAA Forensic Department for autopsy,” he added on.

He said, based on the report, the victim from Kampung Sri Jaya, Maran received treatment and was in the hospital ward since December 16.

The victim’s wife informed that her husband had been suffering from stage four thyroid cancer for the past year and often went to the hospital for chemotherapy.

“The victim also complained to his wife that he wanted to die because he could not stand the pain in the head,” he said.
