Chinese New Year is around the block, and like any annual celebration, we look forward to something new. If you’re anything like my friends, you’d love to collect the various designs of red packets (ang pow) that various brands have designed to vie for our attention. Having taken a glimpse of what some brands have done, here’s what I thought was pretty awesome:
1. Forefront International’s 2017 Rooster Design
Forefront International is a fully-fledged creative agency with a niche expertise in advertising and marketing of premium products and services. In addition to providing branding services for their client, they find time to explore their creative talents such as creating ang pow designs. So you’d be thinking, how do you get your hands on some? Unfortunately, their giveaway had just ended. Perhaps someone you know might be using it so keep your fingers crossed!
Fun fact: this wasn’t their first year of producing awesome ang pow designs, you can check out their previous year ones too!
2. Lego’s Limited Edition Year of Rooster Set
Not surprising that the design would imitate one of its blocks, Legoland Malaysia had an event in Pavilion between 19 to 22 January 2017 as part of its giveaway and to promote the limited edition Year of the Rooster set. Not only does it come with its really adorable ang pow designs, it also feature a limited edition Lego rooster. If you were not there for the event, you could still get FREE 2 sets of LEGO Year of Rooster ang pow packets (Red and Yellow) with purchase of any LEGO play set.
Surely one for the collection, if not a talk amongst your relatives. Imagine all the nostalgia it’ll bring!
3. Changi Airport’s 2017 Pokemon Designs
This one has surely gotten my eye. I mean, it’s Pokemon! The design of course have nothing symbolic of the Year of the Rooster, but it sure as hell look like a keeper! Though this isn’t available within Malaysia, you can still travel to our neighbouring country to do get your hands on them at their international airport.
If you’re willing to fork out some dough and shop at Changi Airport, you can find more details on how to get a set right here.
4. Bank of China’s 12 Zodiac Designs
Making a single design can be tedious enough, could you imagine coming up with 12 completely different ones? A salute to Bank of China for creating this year’s design which features 12 distinct designs represented by each zodiac. Its cutesy cartoon design also adds colour to the ang pow, further giving it life.
If collecting all 12 isn’t rewarding enough, you get to put them together which forms another complete picture!
5. LINE Friends 2017 Ang Pow Designs
Last but not least, LINE Friends’ 2017 ang pow designs. The design, unlike the previous year changes the overall look from the usual red coloured ang pows to different coloured ones. Thankfully, these are still available on Qoo10 or 11Street.
