In just a few days, Malaysians around the country will bid farewell to another exciting year and look towards 2019 with renewed hope and goals to be accomplished. As many of you would probably agree, nothing would surely be possible without first having a clearly defined goal in mind.

With that being said, we’ve listed down a few New Year resolutions most Malaysians fail to follow through and came up with a few tips on how to finally achieve them come 2019. After all, sharing is caring, mah. Without further ado, here are a few resolutions we should stop putting off this new year.

1. Making sure we have monthly savings

Saving is arguably not a forte for most Malaysians as many of us can’t help but want the latest gadgets or resist the urge to splurge on all the mouth-watering food our country is blessed with. So, if you’ve gone through 2018 with zilch in savings, here are a few recommendations on how to avoid overspending in 2019:

  • Use a money management app to track your spending by religiously recording each purchase you make. This gives you a better idea of how much you’re spending for daily expenses and identify where you can cut back on.
  • Make it a point to save at least 20% of your income. A good guide for this is to follow the 50/30/20 rule of thumb (50% necessities, 30% discretionary items, 20% savings).

2. Getting rid of our ‘Malaysian timing’

“Bro, where you now ah? You said you’ll be here 30 minutes ago…”

“Yeah dei, I’m at the traffic light near your house here ni. I’ll be there in 5”

*rolls out of bed*

Sounds familiar? If you too suffer from the infamous ‘Malaysian timing’ then try:

  • Setting your watch back 10 minutes to ensure you’re always early for an appointment
  • Making a bet with a friend where you would have to pay RM1.00 every time you’re late for something.
  • Placing your phone far away from your bed. This way, you would actually have to get out of bed to shut the alarm off, thereby making it harder to hit the snooze button!

3. Losing all that holiday weight and taking fitness seriously

You know how we swear to ourselves that this would be the year where we will take fitness seriously only to give up when Chinese New Year comes around? Yeah, we’ve all been there, unfortunately. So, if you’re looking to make that #NewYearNewMe resolution a reality this 2019, here are a few tips for you:

  • Establish realistic short-term fitness goals such as working out an X (3 is recommended) number of days in a week.
  • Don’t overhaul your diet overnight by making drastic changes in the way you eat. Instead, make gradual steps and set short-term achievable goals which will continue to inspire you to always strive for more.
  • Work out in the morning as it has been found to boost your metabolism and improve your mood.

4. Getting out of our comfort zone by being adventurous

This is a common problem faced by many of us introverts or those who simply enjoy their quiet time alone. Malas tau, sometimes Sleeping Face On Google Android 9.0. But to be fair, stepping out of our comfort zone is something that should not be overlooked.

Here’s how you could start:

  • Attend networking events. It’s a great way to meet new people and exchange ideas with like-minded individuals. Sites such as Eventbrite and Eventful are good tools for you to keep yourself updated with opportunities to do just that.
  • Be more adventurous by attending events alone to meet new people.

Well, if you’re looking to kickstart the new year by getting out of your comfort zone, then here’s an exciting event where you can do just that!

Sunway City’s New Year’s Eve event is shaping up to be the most lit place to be at in the Klang Valley this 31st of December and you should definitely check it out for yourself!
