A woman was caught under suspicion of having an extramarital affair with a 51-year-old widower at a house in Taman Mahsuri, Padang Serai, Kedah today (30 September).

During the inspection at 1.54am, the 36-year-old woman was found hiding behind the door of the man’s house, reported Harian Metro.

According to Kulim District Religious Office (PADK) Chief Enforcement Officer, Azwan Azman, his department received information about suspicious activity in the house before conducting further investigations.

He said that the house was owned by the man who worked as a factory van driver while the woman worked as a production operator at a factory in Prai, Penang.

“The results of the investigation found that the man was living with his teenage son who is disabled (OKU),” he said.

He added that the woman does not have any children and is the wife of another person.

Azwan also said that the man and woman involved failed to show any documents as proof of their relationship nor did they have any documents to show that they were husband and wife. This created suspicions that they were having an extramarital affair in the house.

Following investigations, Azwan said that the man and woman were arrested and taken to the Padang Serai Police Station.

“The couple will be investigated under Section 25 of the State Syariah Criminal Offenses Enactment 2014 for suspected ‘khalwat’.”

If convicted, the accused can be liable to a fine not exceeding RM3,000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding two years or to both.
