A 21-year-old girl has passed away in an accident after having surprised her mother during a trip to Genting on Tuesday (December 10).
According to a report by Shin Min Daily News, Alssa Lyn Tay was heading back to Singapore with her 23-year-old boyfriend, who she had been dating for 3 months when he lost control of his Kawasaki Ninja ZX-10 motorcycle and crashed into a road divider along the North-South Expressway in Johor.
Tay, who was riding pillion, sadly passed away at the scene of the accident.
Tay’s stepfather, Xu, shared that he and Tay’s mother were on a trip to Genting when Tay called him on Monday night (December 9). Tay had just received her new passport and wanted to surprise her mother in Genting.
“I tried to persuade her not to travel (to Genting) by motorcycle, but she insisted on seeing her mother.”
The duo then arrived at Genting on Tuesday at 1am and shared 4 hours with Tay’s family before deciding to head back to Singapore at 5am, as Tay’s boyfriend had a meeting that morning and was in a rush to return.
Tay’s stepfather tried to get her to stay with them and return to Singapore together with a car but she ultimately decided to leave with her boyfriend. Little did they know that that would be the last time they saw each other.
“My wife and I drove to Genting, and we asked our daughter to come back with us, but she still left with her boyfriend first. I didn’t expect that they would have an accident in Kulai.”
Tay’s funeral was held the next day (December 11).
“She is a very cheerful girl and has a good relationship with people. Her friends came to see her after hearing the news,” Xu explained.
Tay’s boyfriend, who had survived the crash with broken legs, came to the funeral in a wheelchair while wearing a blue hospital gown. He apologised to Tay’s family and refused to speak to reporters.
“He just said sorry to us,” Xu said, adding that things had already happened and cannot be changed.
