18 M’sians Made It Into Forbes 2023 Billionaire List, Robert Kuok Tops The Bunch With RM51.88 Billion Wealth

Forbes recently released the 2023 edition of the World’s Billionaires List, its annual ranking of the wealthiest billionaires in the world by documented net worth. This time around, the list featured 18 of the richest Malaysians, with all of them having a combined wealth of USD54.7 billion or approximately RM240.38 billion!

Just like last year, Robert Kuok retains his position as the richest man in our country and 146th globally with USD11.8 billion or RM51.88 billion. He owns Kuok group which has interests in hotels, real estate and commodities, with Forbes putting the source of his wealth to palm oil, shipping and property.

The second wealthiest Malaysian is Quek Leng Chan with USD10.1 billion or RM44.4 billion. Placing 179th on the global list, he made his fortune through the Hong Leong Group which owns a share in Hong Leong Bank.

Completing the top 3 is Ananda Krishnan with USD5.2 billion or RM22.86 billion. Sitting 511th on the global list, Ananda is well-known for his multimedia empire which includes Astro and Maxis.

Based on the list, most of the Malaysian entrants lost some of their wealth last year. This is consistent with the global trend recorded by Forbes which saw nearly half of all billionaires being poorer than they were a year prior.
