Whether or not the Conditional Movement Control Order will be ending next week, we’re still unsure. However, we can be sure to expect more relaxations if (of course) none of us takes advantage of it.

The National Security Council (MKN) conducted a poll on their Telegram to get a general census of what relaxations are netizens expecting from after the 9th of June.

The options included interstate travel, religious activities, education, hair saloon, creative arts (film shooting etc.), premise-less businesses (pasar malam, hawker stalls), recreational activities and even gambling!

Can you guess what Malaysians wants relaxed the most after the 9th of June?

Here’s the breakdown:

  1. 63% voted for interstate travel
  2. 58% voted for religious activities
  3. 35% voted for education
  4. 33% voted for businesses without a premis (e.g. pasar malam, hawker stalls, etc)
  5. 33% voted for hair salons
  6. 11% voted for entertainment (e.g. cinema, karaoke, museum etc)
  7. 10% voted for creative activities (e.g. filming, video shooting etc)
  8. 2% voted for gambling activities

Yes, a majority of Malaysians wants the interstate travel rule to be relaxed. Our guess is that this group of Malaysians are the responsible ones who’ve obeyed the CMCO rules or even the single ones that just want to go back home cause they miss their parents!

The next highest votes were for relaxation in religious places.

Currently, the SOP for religious places is that institutions in green zones will be allowed to open up again starting on the 10th of June. This was announced by Defence Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri who also added that the number of people cannot exceed 30 members no matter how big the establishment is.

Next is the educational sector which comes off as no surprise. Teachers and students alike have been wondering when will their schools be re-opened due to the struggles they’re facing in online learning.

It also seems that Malaysians REALLY want to get a haircut. Unfortunately, they’re gonna have to wait as the minister announced yesterday that hair saloons will still be closed and you’re not allowed to call a barber to your house for a private hair cut as well.

We’re gonna be coming out of CMCO looking like this.

Another thing that Malaysians wants to be relaxed is their pasar malam, wet markets and hawker centres. The absence of bazaar Ramadhan this year really took a toll on us apparently. However, since it’s a bit difficult to maintain social distancing in open spaces such as these, we understand the government’s decision.

Recreational activities such as cinemas, karaokes, museums and parks re-opening got an 11% vote while filming for movies, TV shows and documentaries got 10% vote. Well, with Netflix and other streaming platforms, it’s no wonder we don’t miss our TV shows yet. 2% of Malaysians also want gambling activities to be resumed!

Well, you know what happened to the last group of people who played a simple game of Mahjong!

Malaysians do have differing opinions on what they want to be relaxed after the 9th of June. Until an official announcement is made, let’s just obey the current SOPs and stay safe!
