A schoolboy from Butterworth is currently in critical condition at the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit of the Penang Hospital (HPP) after he apparently choked on an ‘eyeball’ gummy.

According to a report by Berita Harian, 10-year-old Mohamad Fahmi Hafiz Mohamad Fakhruddin allegedly collapsed before his Al-Quran and Fardhu ‘Ain (KAFA) class at about 2:30pm on Tuesday (February 18).

His aunt, 33-year-old Siti Farhani Mohamad Fikri shared that, at 10am this morning (February 19), doctors informed her that the boy was not showing any signs of improvement.

“The doctor told us that if he does not respond by this Friday (February 21), all medications will be stopped. We’re surrendering this to Allah SWT and leaving the treatments to the hospital,” she said.

Siti Farhani had previously taken to social media to ask for prayers regarding her nephew’s progress.

Through her post, she revealed that the boy was in critical condition and was unconscious after he had allegedly choked on the gummy candy while at school. It is believed that the boy had bought the gummy candy at a stall outside of his school.

The boy blacked out on the way to the toilet

Teachers had informed the boy’s family that he fell and blacked out while walking to the toilet and that they immediately called an ambulance.

“The teacher was on a video call with the medical team, who asked them to check Mohamad Fahmi’s mouth before finding the sweet in his throat,”

“When we received Moahamd Fahmi’s clothes from the hospital, we found another piece of the candy in his shirt pocket,” she explained.

We genuinely hope that the boy recovers from this incident.
