There’s no denying an element of mystery and fascination with royal figures. However, it’s important to remember that just like us, crowned monarchs can have regular interests just like their people.

In a Facebook post shared by the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zabry Abdul Kadir, yesterday, 28 November, a national welcome was held at the National Palace of Malaysia for the Prince of Monaco, Prince Albert II.

According to the government official, the Prince of Monaco is expected to have a four-day visit in Malaysia. The arrival of His Majesty and his delegation was welcomed by Kebawah DYMM SPB Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah and Raja Permaisuri Agong Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah.

While having just arrived, Yang di-Pertuan Agong has already taken His Majesty Prince Albert II around a few sights in his home state of Pahang. However, one particular moment has been making waves online.

In a post shared to the official Instagram page of Istana Negara’s account @istana_negara, the Agong had the opportunity to stop and enjoy a cendol drink with the prince at Cendol Lily, a roadside stall in Lanchang, Pahang. This was just after the duo visited the National Tiger Conversation Centre and the National Elephant Conservation Centre of Kuala Gandah.

The royals also took photos with employees at the stall before thanking them as they left.

Garnering a massive response from the public, many Malaysians praised the Agong for bringing Prince Albert II to the stall, to give him an understanding local culture through food.

“It’s a reflection to other royal monarchs around the world of how humble our king is to dine at a roadside stall with common people. Long live the king!” wrote one user.
