Malaysian rapper-turned-politician, Altimet recently revealed how much he makes in a month in his political career as an assemblyman (YB).
In a podcast @dolspodcast, Altimet said he makes as much as RM16,000 a month as an ADUN member of Lembah Jaya in Selangor. The man also said that Selangor is one of the states that gives the highest income to elected representatives.
“In Selangor, with your gross salary and allowances, you can get up to RM16,000 a month. When it comes to Top 3 salaries for assemblymen, those in Selangor are the highest, if I remember correctly.”
The high monthly income is not the only good thing that Altimet had to share in the podcast, which is run by Shuib Sepahtu, the founder of Bubblebee – the popular Malaysian dessert chain.
Altimet has the luxury of applying for a personal loan easily as well as hiring a personal driver with the allowance he receives.
Very much like other government employees, Altimet and other assemblymen are also eligible to obtain loan facilities to buy houses and cars.
But does he need a personal driver to chauffeur him around? Altimet said it is necessary.
“Every assemblymen needs someone to drive them to work events, especially when they’re going out on the field to meet the local community. Part of the allowance we receive has provisions for personal drivers, which we must use.”
Altimet, whose real name is Syed Ahmad Syed Abdul Rahman Alhadad also explained that the allowances are there for a reason – to make their jobs easier.
Altimet won the Lembah Jaya Dun seat in the 2023 State Election (PRN) defeating Sharifah Haslizah Syed Ariffin from Perikatan Nasional (PN).
