Malaysia has extraordinary potential to achieve even faster progress if it continues to be governed effectively and with integrity, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the country’s current economic performance shows that Malaysia is on a strong trajectory, driven by administrative stability and investor confidence in the government’s policies.

Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, said the nation’s economic growth, particularly in the fourth quarter of last year, exceeded the government’s initial expectations.

“I myself, as Finance Minister, was surprised by the figures we achieved for the final quarter of last year.”

“We had expected economic growth of around 5.4% to 5.5%, but Malaysia recorded growth of 6.4% in the fourth quarter,” he said in a speech.

Reflects strength of government’s policies

The Prime Minister said the achievement was not political propaganda but rather reflects the strength of the country’s economic fundamentals and the effectiveness of the government’s policies.

Anwar said the success was also contributed by the commitment of civil servants and enforcement agencies in ensuring stability and the nation’s progress.

He added that the country will continue to prosper if its leadership remains committed to the principles of good governance.
