These days, many teachers have come under fire for their questionable teaching and disciplining methods, such as giving horrendous haircuts to students with hair that is too long and destroying students’ cosmetic products using a hammer.

Recently, another video of a teacher’s controversial action has gone viral.

The video shared on the Instagram page, fakta.indo, shows a teacher in Indonesia pouring water onto a student’s head.

The student was writing, but dozed off in the teacher’s classroom, and that’s when the teacher approached her with a water bottle in hand.

“My only intention is to teach the student a lesson so that she will be more disciplined and not fall asleep in class,” claimed the teacher.

According to Harian Sinar, it is understood that the student fell asleep because she was so tired that she did not realize that the teacher had entered the class.

There was so much water that was poured, that the student’s book was thoroughly soaked. The student remained silent upon being woken up as the teacher reprimanded her.

“Why are you sleeping at school? If you want to sleep, stay at home. Don’t come to school. School is where you learn,” the teacher said.

Indonesian news sites also report that the teacher has apologized and regretted her actions.

Netizens are divided

In the comments section, netizens both agreed and disagreed with the teacher’s methods.

Those who agreed, argued that the teacher’s actions are not a big deal as it used to be worse back when the Internet was not as available.

“This has happened before in the 80s. Nobody cared then. Parents were pleased too,” said one netizen.

“Back in the day, if we made a mistake, we’d have definitely been caned,” another one said.

“If you want to be mad and complain, teach your child yourself. Don’t send them to school.”

On the other hand, here are those who disagree with the teacher’s methods.

“She doesn’t deserve to be called an educator. She deserves to only be a gardener.”

“These teachers should be reprimanded, so they don’t do whatever they want to their students. Just report it to the principal.”
