The announcement of the appointment of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as Prime Minister may have come as a shock to many, especially the older generation seeing as how it was 24 years in the making.

Anwar was fired from the Cabinet in September 1998 and was also expelled from UMNO which subsequently led to the formation known as the Reformasi movement.

Following the 24 year wait, congratulatory messages poured in for Anwar from family, friends as well as his staff.

In a similar instance, a Malaysian recently took to TikTok to share a heartwarming video of her father achieving his dream of meeting Anwar for the very first time.

Sharing the heartwarming clip on popular video sharing platform, Aisha explained that her father had patiently waited for an opportunity to meet the politician for 24 years.

His dreams managed to come true when the family who travelled all the way from Muar, Johor, got to meet the PM at his house.

In the video, Aisha’s wheelchair-bound father is seen to clearly be overwhelmed by the encounter and appeared to break into tears as Anwar stepped out to greet them with a warm smile.

After exchanging brief pleasantries, the family then chatted briefly with the Prime Minister.

A heartfelt encounter

The video has gone viral and currently sits on over 873,600 views and 50,600 likes as of the time of writing. Comments poured in from netizens who were heartwarmed by her father’s dedication and reaction upon meeting Anwar.

“Those who have been supporting him since 1998 must be teary eyed when they heard about his appointment.”

“This brother has been supporting Anwar ever since the reformasi days, that’s probably why he is so sad after finally being able to see Anwar become PM,” commented a user.

Another commented, “There needs to be more of these kinds of videos. I pity the younger generation who are first time voters that do not know the backstory of Anwar.”
