With Hari Raya fast approaching, local fashion brands are now advertising their products in full force in hopes of being the outfit of choice for Malaysians come Aidilfitri.
One brand which is well known with its creative advertising efforts is Malaysian baju melayu brand ‘Bulan Bintang’ which in the past, became the first local brand to have a 3d advertisement on one of the biggest digital billboards in KL last year and recently held a fashion show involving 350 drones which costed a total of RM2 million!
Now, it seems that they have done it once again with a advertisement of their brand new ‘Teluk Belanga’ models which was inspired by local blockbuster Mat Kilau and featured renowned actor, Beto Kusyairy.
The video starts off with Beto, clad in a black baju melayu, performing acrobatic stunts and getting into fights with a group of men who were chasing him.
Whilst they had their showdown in the forest, Beto’s baju melayu ended up being cut in several places. As he quickly finished off his enemies, Beto then stumbles upon a hut with Bulan Bintang written in Jawi.
As he enters the hut, he is then transported to one of Bulan Bintang’s outlets. He then meets the salesperson and asks if they offer something similar to the baju melayu he was wearing.
The salesperson then hands him a new outfit and the video then cuts to Beto posing in his brand new baju melayu and saying that it looks amazing.
He then asks the salesperson where he can pay and is then left confused when she says that he can pay by card at the counter (to signify that he is from Mat Kilau’s era rather than the present).
In a post by Bulan Bintang’s owner on Twitter, Meru said that the idea of the video all started when he playfully mentioned to a friend that he wanted a Mat Kilau inspired video for the launch of Bulan Bintang’s Teluk Belanga collection.
“Finally, I am able to release the video. I hope you guys enjoy this video as much as I do.”
