Weddings can be emotional and momentous occasions but surely it wouldn’t hurt to have a bit of fun on your wedding day.

Recently, an Indonesian Muslim couple’s wedding ceremony went viral on social media after it managed to capture the attention of fellow netizens.

The video was shared by the Malaysia Most Viral Twitter page, which was a video of a dance party at the Indonesian couple’s wedding ceremony.

In the video, the ceremony was decked out with a DJ, bright strobe lights, loud music, a makeshift dance floor as well as smoke machines.

The bride and groom could be seen dancing along to an EDM song along with their attendees.

In their post, Malaysia Most Viral wrote, “I don’t understand kids these days. Even a wedding ceremony could be turned into a disco. (What’s even worse) is that the women are all (dancing) whilst wearing hijabs.”

Crticised by netizens

The post sparked an internet war between Malaysia and Indonesia as netizens from both countries chimed in with their opinions on the video.

Some Malaysians echoed the same sentiments as the original poster and said that it is super inappropriate to have such dances at a Muslim wedding.

However, the majority of responses which were from both Malaysians and Indonesians were in support of the couple’s wedding ceremony.

This is actually freaking cool. I don’t know why so many Malays are damn salty. Apparently they’re allergic to fun and have never seen Indonesian/South Asian Muslim weddings. So uncreative,” said a user.

A netizen wrote, “Indonesians know how to have fun. I love my people for real. They can have a dangdut competition and say prayers at the same time.”

Another pointed out that Malay weddings in the past were similar. “What’s the problem. Malay weddings ever since before have had dancing, singing, Hindustan songs, dangdut, etc.”
