Going to the mall is probably one of Malaysia’s favourite urban recreational pastimes. After all, there’s nothing quite as relaxing as luxuriating in the freezing air-cond while window shopping and telling yourself you will resist buying something if it isn’t on sale. Kena pandai jimat lah if you stay in urban cities.

But what many shoppers were probably not expecting is for their pleasant stroll around a shopping mall to be interrupted by a brazen fire, like the one that happened just yesterday (18th September 2019) which has since went viral over social media.

Occurring at a furniture exhibit that was being held at Midvalley Southkey Mall in Johor Bahru, the fire looked almost like something out of a Medieval fantasy movie when flames shot up high enough to be seen from the first floor of the mall.

Fire alarms were going off and shoppers that were on the scene were shocked by the thick black smoke and wild flames!

Fire and Rescue services were called at 2.45pm, while some shoppers attempted to put out the blaze by using emergency fire hoses and fire extinguishers located within parts of the mall. Officials confirm that the fire pretty much destroyed the entire display area, leaving burnt ruins in its wake.

However, the cause of the fire itself is still being investigated. Thankfully, no injuries were reported during the incident!

For all of you reading this, please don’t risk your life trying to get real time footage of these incidents as they happen! Given the proximity to danger, it’s always a good idea to leave the vicinity of the fire immediately and leave the rest to the authorities! Stay safe!
