When we were in our teens, most of us only thought about getting good grades in our exams and all the usual teenage angst that we experienced at that tender age. For Isabela Vinzon, she thought nothing of her age and decided to enter a prestigious singing competition known as The Voice Teens Philippines when she was just 15 years old.
How she got started
Although she was up against dozens of other talented individuals, ultimately, she managed to nab the runner-up spot in the competition. That’s pretty cool! Known affectionately as Lala to her fans, this young teen with powerful vocals will mesmerise you when she starts singing.
In fact, her talents were discovered before she entered the competition – one of her schoolteachers heard her belting out a tune in the school bathroom. She was persuaded to sing in front of the faculty after that and the next day, Lala was asked to join a local competition in Bacolod.
Her favourite songs are from the jazz and soul genre while she also has other hidden talents which include playing the piano. She showcased this during one of her more enchanting performances in the semi-finals of “The Voice Teens” which wowed the judges and audience.
Awesome experiences in Malaysia
Now, she has become an international star and has recently collaborated with one of our very own home-grown celebrities, Alvin Chong on a catchy new English single entitled, We Got This. It’s certainly inspiring to see someone so young already making waves in the international arena, yet she remains really down-to-earth and humble about it.
Since she was recently in Malaysia, WORLD OF BUZZ managed to have a little chat with her about her new song and what she thinks about our lovely country.
Seeing as it’s her first time in Malaysia, we had to ask her what she thinks about her visit here. She said, “I absolutely love it here. I love the people and the food. The people here are all so kind and friendly, they have warm smiles and they greet you sincerely too.” PS: She told us her favourite Malaysian food is onde-onde!
However, she surprised us when she compared Malaysia with the Philippines and said that the pace here is less hectic compared to the Philippines, as a lot of people in her country seem to be rushing everywhere they go. Lala added, “There is no traffic here unlike in the Philippines. Compared to the Philippines, this is nothing, even the rush hour here is way better.” Be grateful, my fellow Malaysians!
Lala also praised the Malaysian music scene and said she hopes that more local artistes can be more well known in the international arena as she feels that we have the potential. She describes Malaysian music as being soulful and meaningful as well. “Every song has a very deep meaning. They (the singers) sing it very well with emotions and that’s very good,” she said.
Creating We Got This with Alvin Chong
As she was also promoting her new song collaboration with Alvin Chong, she told us about her experience working together with him. “He’s simply been a dream to work with. He’s such a professional and hardworking person, plus he’s so kind and humble too. People are just happy being around him as he has this positive energy around him that’s very contagious. I’m looking forward to working with him in other parts of the world too,” she said.
Of course, we were curious to know about the meaning behind the catchy new single, so we quizzed her about it too. Lala explained, “At the surface it sounds like a love song but it’s more about two people meeting in one place, who just want to have fun and at the same time they want to try new things which is why the lyrics are ‘We Got This’. Basically, we want to spread positive energy and vibes to every generation as it’s a timeless feeling. It’s a very upbeat song that will hopefully get people dancing and grooving along with it.”
Don’t worry though, Lala says that since she didn’t have much time to explore Malaysia during her previous visit here, she wants to come back soon to explore more places. Malaysia welcomes you anytime! 🙂
