Eleven-year-old Por Hui Ling was recently cast under the limelight after she successfully aced all the Islamic-based subjects in Ujian Penilaian Kelas Kafa (UPKK), which needless to say, is a rare achievement considering she’s a non-Muslim. Her achievement was so astounding she has gotten praises from Muslim netizens themselves!
According to NST, the third child of the family lives in Kampung Gong Pak Damak Taman Dea Jaya and studies at Sekolah Kebangsaan Tok Jiring (SKTJ). It was understood that she drew inspiration from her elder brother who previously attended Kafa classes before.
“My brother scored 5As and 3Bs in the UPKK in 2015, so I was motivated to do better than my brother. My parents were also supportive of my bid to study what the Malay students are learning and also since my Malay friends are also learning Mandarin.
“It is fun to have the opportunity to learn all the subjects in UPKK especially the Jawi subject,” Hui Ling told NST reporters.
She added that she took up the subjects on her free will and the support from her parents have helped tremendously. Admittedly, she had a rough start as she was struggling to grasp the language. In fact, she was among the weakest in the Jawi subject and had to attend additional classes on Friday and Saturday.
“Within a few months, I managed to master Jawi reading and writing as well as reading Arabic words. I learned my lessons when I studied in the classroom and was also not shy to ask the teacher if I did not understand anything,” she added.
She’s also a firm believer that any knowledge or subject can be mastered as long as one has the passion for it. Case in point, she aced all the subjects in the recent UPKK including:
- Solat practicum
- Appreciating the Islamic Way of Living
- Jawi and Khat
- Islamic Virtues
- Ulum Syariah (Faith and Worship)
- Lughatul Quran (Quran Language)
- Sirah (biography of the Prophet Muhammad)
Her brother, Jie Ho was particularly proud of her achievement, saying, “Among the UPKK subjects, it is not easy to score an A in the Jawi and Arabic subject. I had previously studied under UPKK and know the challenges in mastering and studying all the subjects.”
For SKTJ, it was a historical achievement as the headmaster Abdul Aziz Deraman said,
“Previously, Jie Ho achieved a remarkable result and this has been now continued by Hui Ling with better results this year. Hui Ling’s success would be a catalyst and challenge for other Muslim students to excel in UPKK.”
A total of 138 students sat for the UPKK at SKTJ this year and Hui Ling is one of the 57 students who scored 8A’s. Her success is nothing short of inspiring and it’s truly the embodiment of the 1Malaysia spirit. Keep making Malaysia proud, girl!
