We all have role models in life. People that we look up to and dream of possibly meeting one day. These kids however decided that they weren’t going to wait for that dream to happen any longer and took matters into their own hands to see their heroes in action.

A 10-year-old boy and his 11-year-old brother was recently discovered by authorities to be the culprits of 12 house fires that have taken place in a local village, known as Kampung Badang, Kota Bharu, from the period of June till now.

The boys reasoned their playing with fire by saying that they just wanted to witness firefighters doing their job.

According to China Press, a local villager, Azri, discovered that someone had tried to set a fire outside his house at 11:30pm last Thursday after his wife informed him of the incident.

Thankfully, the fire wasn’t severe and Azri managed to extinguish it before it spread to other areas of the village. However, the source says his house wasn’t the only thing that caught on fire that night.

His neighbours allegedly had their sofa set on fire as well, which caused much distress among the villagers. Unfortunately, this wasn’t the first time these boys have caused fires to happen in their village.

“The first incident of houses catching on fire began in June this year. The second time, three houses burned down. It happened when we were celebrating Eid al-Fitr.”

Three houses reportedly burned down that night.

And the fires only escalated from that point. A total of seven houses burned down the third time fires from the village were reported. One of the fires even caused a single mother and her eight children their home!

When the police were notified of these fires, they launched a full length investigation to identify the cause of this recurring issue.

It was then identified that two children were responsible for setting these houses on fire because they wanted to see firefighters extinguish them.

Since discovering the culprits, Deputy Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli told Sinar Harian that the two brothers have been detained:

“A restraining order has been imposed against them for the period of two days and takes effect today.”

Hopefully, these boys have learned their lesson.
