A sad reality in Malaysia is that people have to live in tiny, storeroom like rooms because that’s the only thing they can afford.

But, did you know that there are also tinier, coffin-like rooms for foreign workers, and the entire set up of these rooms really look like a morgue.

The Ministry of Local Government Development (KPKT) and its Minister, Nga Kor Ming, recently raided a shoplot that converted their space into capsule-like rental rooms that looks more like those dead body freezers in a morgue.

They shared, “YB Kor Ming raids a ‘liang lahad’ (graveyard).”

While some of the rooms at this premises are storeroom-sized, the others were tiny capsules that can very much cause claustrophobia.

Room 3

“Last week, I gave a warning. Today, KPKT continued to carry out surprise operations on shop premises that created 38 illegal ‘liang lahad’ rental rooms which invite the risk of fire. In regards to the matter of safety, the Government will not compromise and decisive action will be taken immediately,” Nga shared.

Room 5

Along with the raid, Nga also ordered all 155 local councils to monitor and look out for building renovation activities that are being conducted without approval, in order to track any more of these coffin rental rooms from popping up.

Would you be willing to live in one of these morgue rooms? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
