Following the success of Menu Rahmah, many have been excited to see what else the Unity Government will come up with in order to help the underprivileged afford necessities such as groceries.
With that being said, the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) is considering the proposal to create a supermarket that sells affordable goods, after seeing favourable responses in the sales of ‘Rahmah’ introduced by the government.
According to a report by Kosmo, KPDN Minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub shared that countries such as the United States (US) and the United Kingdom (UK) have such supermarkets that provide many benefits to those in need.
“Why don’t we try to create an affordable supermarket? Sometimes these items, what makes them expensive is the brand but the quality is still the same (as compared to other brands). Customers and profits are also very encouraging for us to participate.”
“I will hold more meetings. We have many billionaires in the country and why don’t they invest in this supermarket which is seen to benefit the people,” he said during the Dewan Rakyat session held today (March 7).
This comes after Rasah MP Cha Kee Chin shared his curiousity on whether the government will continue and expand on the Rahmah sales initiative which has given the struggling and underprivileged a sense of security when it comes to affording meals.
What do you think? Should the government quickly implement a Rahmah-styled supermarket? Do feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
