The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has arrested 12 locals in connection with an alleged gang robbery and impersonation of police officers involving a 38-year-old Taiwanese YouTuber at Eko Cheras Residence here.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said police received a report on 1 August from a Japanese man, who told authorities that his employer, the Taiwanese content creator, had been assaulted and robbed.

Suspects targeted victim’s stash of foreign cash

Fadil said preliminary investigations found that the suspects allegedly targeted the victim after learning that he was keeping a substantial amount of cash in foreign currencies.

The Kuala Lumpur Police Chief asserted,

“The victim sustained injuries and suffered losses estimated at more than RM35,000. The motive is believed to be that the suspects knew the victim had a large amount of cash in high-value foreign currencies, which triggered the crime.”

Following the report, the Cheras District Police Headquarters Criminal Investigation Division, together with the Kuala Lumpur Criminal Investigation Department, launched a special operation.

12 Malaysian suspects arrested

The operation led to the arrest of 12 individuals across several locations in Selangor, Negeri Sembilan, and Kuala Lumpur. The suspects comprise eight men and four women; all Malaysian citizens aged between 26 and 48.

Of the 12 arrested, seven were released on police bail on 7 August after their statements were recorded. The remaining five have been remanded until 13 August to assist with the investigations, as reported by Berita Harian and Oriental Daily.

Police are investigating the case under Section 170 of the Penal Code for impersonating a public servant and Section 395 for gang robbery. Fadil added that police are actively tracking down one more suspect who remains at large.
