The crowd of students positioned with a crash net below the ledge could only watch with horror of the incident.

According toĀ New Minute, several students had already jumped and made it down safely. The official investigating officer explained that the group has been conducting such exercise in a number of colleges for the past five years and this was the first accident to happen.

“We have arrested the trainer. The victim sustained fatal injuries on her neck and head. The trainer will be charged with causing death due to negligence,” said a police officer.

The college authorities clarified that the drill was conducted by the Nation Disaster Management Authority of India (NDMAI), but according to the Commissioner of Tamil Nadu State Disaster Management Agency, Rajendra Ratnoo, the trainer is not a registered trainer of Ā NDMAI and he was not aware of any drills done at the college.
