As a girl or a woman, there are many precautions to take when going out alone: finding a parking spot near the entrance of a place, not staying out too late, not going to deserted areas and more, lest something unfortunate happens.
But who knew that an act as innocent as eating a sundae cone while driving in one’s car can also invite unwanted attention and potential danger?
Recently, Malaysian woman, @flwrbloom3 (Faa) shared a TikTok video of an encounter she had while driving alone which gave her the shivers.
She was enjoying a sundae cone in her car when a man in the car next to hers allegedly started harrassing her by staring at her creepily.
“There is a difference between LOOKING and STARING! This creepy old man (has) been following and giving me that look for almost 10 min,” she said in the video caption.
Netizens shared similar experiences
In the comments, netizens empathised with her and shared similar experiences they have had.
“So scary! I’ve experienced this but it’s with two people on a motorcycle.”
Another user commented, “Nothing is safe these days. Once, I was pumping gas and someone came up to me to ask for my number. He even said, ‘You’re alone. Don’t be arrogant.'”
Others shared that incidents such as this one are the reason why they have their car windows fully tinted.
“That’s why I install tinted windows. I was even chased on the highway once,” commented a netizen.
“That’s why I tint my car windows till it’s dark. It’s for my own safety. Whether I get fined or not, that’s a problem I’ll think about when the time comes.”
Some may think that these women are overreacting, but it can be difficult to understand the very real fear that one goes through when put in a situation like this.
